How to laugh more

Laughter is the best medicine and having your daily dose of a good laughter can seriously improve your overall health.

Yep you read correctly...

Laughter is the best medicine when coping with anxiety or depression. Humor is a great form of relaxation and stress relief. Laughter is a great way to learn to not take ourselves too seriously and to simply enjoy life.

When you surround yourself with positive, uplifting people and you laugh more, it has been proven to help you deal with feelings of loneliness, anger, depression, sadness and anxiety.

When you laugh it basically stimulates the heart and lungs and releases endorphins which helps you to feel more relaxed and physically and emotionally. Laughter also increases resilience and basically resilience is when you view failures as a natural progression towards success rather than viewing it as a negative outcome to a situation.

Basically when you have the ability to rather look at mistakes as an a learning curve without becoming angry or frustrated or demotivated, that helps you develop a strong sense of resilience because you are choosing to get back up again despite being knocked down. Laughing at your mistakes also allows you to recognize that making mistakes in life is only part of being human.

Being unhappy can lead you down a path of where it becomes a pattern or a mindset if we don't actually step outside of what we are feeling at times. Trust me this is something I have experienced. When you simply can't get out of those negative thought patterns and it begins to consume you. Laughing definitely helps with that. It helps to bring you back down to the present moment where you can become more aware of your emotions and then you are able to deal with them instead of drowning in them.

Laughter can also help relieve pain however it is important to understand that it obviously cannot take away the pain but it basically helps to change pain levels and even though the amount of pain remains the same, your perceived pain levels are reduced and your belief that you can actually cope with that pain increases. Remember laughter is not the ultimate solution when experiencing pain but it can help you to overcome feelings of discomfort.

When you change your mindset, things will shift for you. Why not laugh more, enjoy life more and remember that life is a true gift and that our bad experiences only shape us into stronger and better individuals.
