The Sunshine Vitamin

Image
Vitamin D is called the 'sunshine vitamin' because it's made in your skin when exposed to sunlight. Basically when you get a good amount of Vitamin D, it helps with normal growth and the development of bones and teeth, as well as the improved resistance against certain diseases.  Vitamin D plays a major role in regulating your mood and fighting off depression. Spending time in the Sun each day for even 10-15 minutes, already has a positive impact on your mood and the functioning of your immune system.  Vitamin D also helps with weight loss. Research has shown that extra calcium and Vitamin D had an appetite suppressing effect. I absolutely love spending time outdoors or in the Sun because it helps me to relax and connect with our source of energy that gives us life.  Being exposed to sunlight can increase the brain's release of a hormone called 'serotonin.' That is the hormone that is linked to having a better mood as well as keeping you calm and focused.  Basi

From less stress to a boost in self-esteem, exercise is the hidden secret to happiness.

Exercise is as great for the brain as it is for the body.  It helps ease the feelings of depression, anxiety and keeps your memory sharp. These are 5 amazing benefits from working out.  Number One:  It is a natural way to deal with depression and anxiety. It is a proven mood booster because the physical exercise basically kicks up your endorphin levels which makes you 'feel good' and they are chemicals produced by the brain and spinal cord that creates feelings of happiness and euphoria.  You don't need to push your body, even moderate exercise throughout the week can improve those dark feelings of depression and unhappiness.  Number Two: An immense decrease in stress. I speak from experience because I have always suffered from a high levels of anxiety and once I start to move my body or go for a run or practice yoga- I always feel a sense of peace and mental strength. I even enjoy high intensity cardio workouts because it pushes me mentally and I gain so much clarity and

My story on becoming healthy again.

Since I was young, my family was really focused on a healthy lifestyle and I was really aware of what I was putting into my body. I have always been aware of what was good and bad for my body however I used food as punishment for how I felt about myself, I really abused food especially bad foods. When I was 12 I was hospitalized for a burst appendix which was definitely a wake up call for me and it changed my entire perception on health, however my mind was still not right.  I lost a lot of weight and finally I felt good enough because I was skinny, which at the time society depicted as perfect. I became obessed over maintaining that weight , however it did not turn out well because I developed an eating disorder where I would either starve myself of food or over eat. Depriving my body of food was not the answer because my eating disorder worsened and I was even insecure about eating in front of people, fearing judgement.  My relationship with food has always been an ongoing journey.  I have immense respect for nature and our beautiful Earth. Our Earth is not only the planet we live on, that is the third planet from our gorgeous Sun which formed around 4.5 billion years ago and is the only planet known to have life on it- it is also our wonderful home. Nature is so beautiful and forgiving and we all don't show enough love to our home.  Being in nature or even looking at imagery of nature, it reduces certain toxic emotions like anger, fear, sadness and stress. Having exposure to nature not only makes you feel better emotionally and from your core, it also is a major aspect to physical well being, helps reduce blood pressure, heart rate and muscle tension. An overall sense of 'bliss.' I have always had anxiety through out my life, it is something I struggle with, that is why I have so much appreciation to nature because I find a way to find peace within myself again as well as strength.  I recently celebrated my 26th birthday. There has been many ups and
