Today I wanted to discuss overthinking and basically overthinking is when you tend to dwell or worry yourself about the same thought repeatedly. So many people overthink situations in their minds and may actually struggle to be present in the moment or be able to make any decisions in their lives because they are constantly consumed by worry. Overthinking can contribute towards depression, anxiety and other mental health issues, so today I am here to help you to overcome that feeling so that you can live your best life.

Firstly, how many of you actually suffer from overthinking? I know that I have and do sometimes, and I have to literally check in with myself so that I can snap out of it and step back into the present moment. Think about it this way, our thoughts create our reality and whatever you hold in your mind on a regular basis, is exactly what you will experience in your life. Every successful person has used the power of their thoughts to achieve the success they want in life, instead of allowing their thoughts to negatively impact their life. Sometimes it can be hard for some people to turn off their concerns and worries in their minds. We all sometimes worry about tomorrow or the future and we base our predications for what is to come on ideas that have not even happened. We get so caught up in the what ifs or what could happen and it ends up destroying our mental health. Some people even focus consistently on what others may think of them and allow negative self-talk to really build up in their thoughts and take power of how they navigate through life.

So what do you need to do, in order to stop overthinking?

So understanding the concept of overthinking is the first step, because you need to literally ask yourself - why am I overthinking right now? and what benefit does this have in my life? You need to realize that your energy and time is so valuable and you need to ensure that you are focusing your precious energy on positive things, instead of consuming your mind with negative thought tendencies. When you play different situations in your mind in order to make hard decisions. Overthinking can have a negative impact because it affects your problem solving skills as well as your self confidence, because you are constantly replaying scenarios in your mind, instead of focusing on what you can control and constantly moving forward no matter what.

I want to discuss 3 healthy ways to stop overthinking.

Firstly identify your destructive, negative thought patterns. These patterns tend to come up during times where you experience stress and conflict and they do add to negative effects of overthinking. This is your golden opportunity to start figuring out ways for you to de stress and find your balance again. That could be going for a walk, reading a good book or doing some form of physical activity, because exercising as a positive benefit on the way we feel, how we view ourselves and is a great way to release feelings of worry and stress.

Secondly change the narrative and overcome those limiting beliefs you have about yourself. Drop them right now. My own limiting beliefs have held me back before from opportunities and in the end, you are your own worst enemy so you need to really believe in your abilities. You may tell yourself that - Ï have always been an overthinker' or 'I have always been a worrier' - well remember what you think about and tell yourself, you will end up believing, and you have the power to really change the narrative in order to change your mindset and change your life. These limiting beliefs hold you back and can be very hard to change if you have never asked yourself the important question like 'why do I overthink?' and 'where does this stem from?' and 'how can I change this way of thinking?' In order to change anything in your life, you need to understand the root of the issue and where it comes from, so that you can better understand how to approach it and change it. You need to identify your limiting beliefs so that you can change them for good. Start telling yourself that -'You are in control of your emotions' and 'you have the power to change your negative thought patterns.' Once you change the narrative from negative to positive - you will change your life.

Lastly be solution orientated. When you identify your problems in your life, you are able to find ways to solve them and overcome them. For example - if your overthinking is caused by stress you are experiencing at work - perhaps take a moment and rethink your career path. If you are not where you want to be in life, set goals for yourself so that you can achieve what you want. If you feel as if life is out of your control, you need to make the decision for yourself, to get back in the drivers seat again and take action. There is no other option than to keep going and to keep pushing. You are capable of achieving great things in your life. So let go of your past as well, and that does not mean you should forget the valuable lessons learned, it means don't allow your mistakes to control your future decisions and hold you back from being happy. Don't allow bad things that have been done to you - have so much power over your emotions. Choose to forgive others and release feelings of anger and resentment. Sounds easier said than done right? Well, taking these powerful steps to change your narrative, will only improve your overall life.
