The Sunshine Vitamin

Vitamin D is called the 'sunshine vitamin' because it's made in your skin when exposed to sunlight.

Basically when you get a good amount of Vitamin D, it helps with normal growth and the development of bones and teeth, as well as the improved resistance against certain diseases.

Vitamin D plays a major role in regulating your mood and fighting off depression. Spending time in the Sun each day for even 10-15 minutes, already has a positive impact on your mood and the functioning of your immune system.

Vitamin D also helps with weight loss. Research has shown that extra calcium and Vitamin D had an appetite suppressing effect.

I absolutely love spending time outdoors or in the Sun because it helps me to relax and connect with our source of energy that gives us life.

Being exposed to sunlight can increase the brain's release of a hormone called 'serotonin.' That is the hormone that is linked to having a better mood as well as keeping you calm and focused.

Basically without exposure to the Sun, your serotonin levels can take a dip. This could cause what they call seasonal depression due to a major dip in serotonin. It is important to be safe as well when being in the Sun - someone is more likely to get sunburn between the times when the Sun's rays are more direct. This is usually from 10am-4pm. Therefore wear a hat, wear sunscreen, be protective and aware of your skin.

Every research I have ever read, as always mentioned the proven benefits of basking in the Sun, surrounding yourself with nature and looking across at the beautiful sea.

Take that time for yourself to really reflect, appreciate and express gratitude for life
