Save our Seas. Wake up!

I have always felt a strong connection towards the ocean and it's beauty. I have always found an immense amount of love, appreciation and inspiration from the ocean. However the hard core truth that many of us either choose to ignore or are simply not aware of the serious issues our marine life are facing.

I watched a really remarkable, eye opening documentary on Netflix basically exposing the harsh truth that we all may not be aware of and that is the unfair killing of our beautiful marine life that contributes greatly to our existence and it truly broke my heart.

I believe the reason many of us don't take action is simply because we aren't aware and that we are fed information which is only trying to cover up the real truth.

For a very long time, we are all led to believe that plastic is the main reason our marine life is rapidly dying out and that plastic is the main contributor to climate change however that is not the case. There is more than meets the eye. Anti- plastic campaigns fill our social media feeds, consume everything we watch but the actual real issue at hand is a much bigger problem than what we are all led to believe.

I truly encourage people to question things, formulate their own opinions and find ways that can help save our magnificent, forgiving planet.

There are many major environmental brands that lead us to believe their main goal is to protect our planet, to protect our marine life and our gorgeous oceans however many of those organizations are either led or owned by the people who are only trying to cover up the real truth about what is going on behind the scenes.

It leads to me believe. What can WE do to truly save and conserve our planet?

Our lives can be influenced by so many superficial and shallow needs and wants, when there are real issues affecting our home called Earth and all living beings. It makes me question, what can I do more to raise awareness on these issues until they become heard and things actually change.

The real issue at hand is OVERFISHING. This issue creates a bigger negative impact than pollution or the issue of plastic in our ocean. By catch is one of the bigger issues that impact our marine life and kill innocent marine creatures due to the commercial fishing industry. Basically by catch is when the 'unwanted fish' and other marine animals get trapped when commercial fishing nets are out fishing for different species and in the process their creatures die.

Stop focusing on the superficial side of 'saving the planet' and actually educate yourself and raise awareness on the real issues that are endangering our marine life. The sad truth is that even if you had to stop supporting the industrial fishing industry or the consumption of fish, us as tax payers basically subsidize the fishing industry without even being aware of it.

What can we really do? When I discovered this hard truth, I felt helpless and saddened.

The only thing we can do is contribute to bringing awareness to these issues and to be open to having real conversations where we are not afraid to address these issues even if they are not benefiting us in any way on a superficial level. The Earth is our home, but our marine life also belongs here and deserves the same love and respect even when they cannot defend themselves.

There are even cases of slave labor, where people are promised jobs and an income, and left to work long and hard to ensure the commercial fishing industry is making a profit. These people have families and the right to live their lives not forced to work in unfair conditions.

When will the human race wake up??

This is where our own self awareness and respect for ourselves come to play. When will we truly stop being selfish and ignorant to the real issues our planet is facing?

All I can say is WAKE UP.
